The premium price drop many think is to completely replace the arcade system.
Many are speculating that the pro is going to replace the arcade as the low end system, and a new sku (60gb) is going to be the new middle system between the premium and the elite.
Just thought that I would verify that M$ isn't stupid for not doing that, because they probably are going to do exactly that.

I didn't especially like the mutants, but it did help the story, added enemy variation, and gave me a motivation. In an open world thing, there's not as much reason for me to go kill people if I can just leave the area.

About 80% of the animations (especially death animations) were pretty awesome (until they went to ragdoll... what a crappy way to end such a nice animation).
The guys coming out of the tank really looked off though.
I really wish developers spent like $5 to get someone who's actually good to play their games though.

Anyone with a decent knowledge of both systems knows the theoretical performance of both is more similar than you'd expect. Yet I still have to deal with fanboys that don't understand the concept of the whole not being the same as the sum of its pieces.

Pretty good all around, but a few corrections.
the reason many developers don't like the PS3's ram is because it's split. Plain and simple. It makes it harder to put things where you want them. In the case of ID with RAGE/Idtech 5, they dislike it because they designed it to use textures in very creative ways.

Wow... the cell when custom coded and optimized for a benchmark compared to other processors, which were only adapted for the same benchmark, actually came out on top. Who would have thought it.
Let's ignore the fact that the purpose of the study was to test for bottlenecks in the benchmarking system and experiment with how multiple cores could handle SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS (read: not general purpose or gaming), not to compare the performance of the actual CPUs.

They wasted a huge opportunity. The playstation brand pretty much WAS gaming for 2 generations. That's a long way to fall by your third generation to a company that has been in steep decline and a company that only just entered the home entertainment as well as console gaming market.

It's a closed box system sure, but it loses flexibility. It's a constraint regardless of how you turn it.
And it's not just ports that are on par with 360 games. Games designed well for either system will look great. Bioshock looked great, oblivion looked great, Uncharted looked great, Gears Looked great.
I haven't seen a PS3 game yet where I had to throw my hands in the air and go "wow... it actually looks better."
